Content (Adult Content, Age, Deletion, Language, Ownership, Right To Reply, Swearing)

ADULT CONTENT

Discussing or sharing adult/sexual content where the intention is to arouse is not currently allowed. Should this change in the future, the board will be for members only, to ensure that our site is not caught up in filtering by organisations (e.g. if you try to access an adult site in a library, it would be blocked) or ranked poorly in search engines.

Genuine discussion on adult/sexual matters is allowed. Examples include discussing a sexually themed movie, or a sexual relationship problem.

CONTENT AGE

If the latest post on a thread is over a year old, or the first post in the thread is over two years old, we encourage you to create a new thread, instead of replying to an existing one. You are still allowed to revive older content, and you will not face any discipline for doing so, even if forum staff believe the revival to be incorrect.

When considering whether to reply to an older thread or to create a new one, consider:
  • Is the thread time sensitive (e.g. politics) or is the thread timeless?
  • Would a reply cause confusion, or is it better to avoid a duplicate thead?
  • Would it be better to bring in new perspectives and keep content fresh?
  • If I had posted in this thread before, would I be happy to be notified of a new reply?
If you are not sure, please start a new thread. Forum staff can merge your new content with the older content if they feel it is suitable.

CONTENT DELETION

When you post content on other websites, you will often agree to them being able to change and/or remove your content at any time and without a reason. Your content can be moderated simply because someone doesn't like it, even when it doesn't actually break any rules. Nobody takes any responsibility for issues and there is no right to appeal. You may never even know that your content has been moderated, let alone why.

For our forum staff to moderate your content, there must be a [WORD] [PURPOSE?] for the moderation, which must be recorded.

As we can never account for every issue that may require moderation, forum staff can use their own judgement to moderate content even when it has not broken any rules, but they must still record the moderation action, [ABIDE] by our moderation priciples, and be able to justify their actions when forum management audit the moderation logs. Forum staff using their own judgement does not mean that they can moderate your content without a reason.

CONTENT LANGUAGE

All content must be in English. If you are discussing something in another language, you must provide an accurate translation to English.

CONTENT OWNERSHIP

When you post content, you give us certain rights that allow us to use your content, known as a license. Most other sites will abuse this and give themselves the right to do basically anything, but not here. Below you will find the terms of the license in plain English.

We have the following rights to your content:
  • The right to display your content publicly, where search engines and other services (such as Wayback Machine) can index it
  • The right to keep your content even after your account has been deleted or disciplined, to maintain the integrity of discussions
  • The right to post your content, linking it back to the post on this forum, to expand our each (we do not claim it as our own content)
We do not have the following rights, without your direct written content:
  • We will not sell, share, or sublicense your content to anyone else (other sites can use your content for their own commercial gain)
  • We will not significantly change your content (excludes basic changes like format and size - other sites can change anything they want)
  • We will not transfer your content to someone else without giving you notice and the right to remove your content before the transfer

RIGHT TO REPLY

When you post a negative or neutral experience, the respondent (a business or an individual) being posted against has the right to reply to your post, which will be displayed publicly. This ensures that content an be balanced, constructive, and transparent, where all sides can represent themselves fairly. Anyone who has been posted against can reply. From your council or landlord, to the manufacturer or retailer of a product. As long as our guidelines are followed, we will never decline a respondents right to reply.

We may approach a respondent with your post, and invite them to reply, similar to how news channels will request a comment. The respondent has seven calendar days to reply (even if that is to tell us that they need more time) before we consider the invite as ignored. The "TFUK-Replies" account will reply to the thread to inform members when an invite has been sent, when the respondent has replied alongside the reply itself, or if the invite has been ignored. Invited respondents will not need to verify themselves as we will only send the invite to an official email or postal address (yes, sometimes we will post an invite), and they can request a respondent account and reply from that instead.

When not invited to reply, the respondent can reply by either filling in a form, or by registering for a respondent account.

The form:
  • Suitable for a single reply where the respondent is unlikely to post additional replies
  • Forum staff manually review the submission, and will post it with the account "TFUK-Replies"
  • Respondents may request us to contact the member to ask us to clarify details (e.g. identification or order number)
The respondent account:
  • Suitable for multiple and/or ongoing replies as you can log in and reply without a form
  • Forum staff manually review each reply before it becomes publicly visible
  • Members can identify the respondent account by a marking under the username (if there isn't one, it is fake)
  • Respondents may contact a member by direct message only to clarify details (e.g. identification or order number)
For both the form (on each use) and respondent account (on registration and on occasional random audits), the respondant will need to prove that they have the authorisation to make an official reply. Respondents must never use a normal member account to reply. Members who have relations to a respondent, such as being employed by them, can still reply to a post as themselves, but the member must ensure that their reply to related threads, and their profile "Affiliated" field, states their relation.

To ensure that your reply is published, you must follow these guidelines:
  • Directly address the issue, being balanced between clear and concise but detailed too
  • Be individually written by a human, without corporate copy and paste generic rubbish
  • Aim towards a positive resolution with good intentions even if one isn't reached
  • Be constructive, fair, and respectful at all times (members too!)
  • The reply may contain evidence, but personal information must be removed

SWEARING

While swearing is allowed, especially when in context, please keep in mind the public nature of the forum.

Staff may use their judgement to filter words (not neccessarily swearing). When staff make a change, they will inform you why they decided to make that change.

Some words (not neccessarily swearing) may be replaced automatically by an alternative word or asterisks. You must not try to evade the replacement. If you consider the replacement is incorrect, please contact us, and we will either change the automatic replacement, or manually override it.

If in doubt, just asterisk the middle letters of the word. F**k yeah!
