Content Standards

LANGUAGE

All content must be in British English, using British currencies, formats, and units.

If you discuss something in another language, or you use a different currency, format, or unit, you must provide an accurate translation/conversion to British English. This is as simple as providing the British English equivalent in brackets, such as "I went to the USA where it was 86°F (30°C)!"

Please do not be worried about accidentally using another version of English (such as American English). We're not going to panic if you type color instead of colour.

NAUGHTY WORDS

While the use of problematic/sensitive/swear words is not outright disallowed, especially when used in context, please keep in mind the public nature of this forum.

Staff can use their judgement to edit certain words to safer choices. If this happens, we will try to choose a word that doesn't change the context and intention behind your content, and you will be notified that a change has been made and why. You can always contact us about the change, but you must not reverse our change.

Similarly, some words may:
  • Be automatically changed to an alternative word
  • Have some characters in the word automatically replaced with asterisks
  • Cause your post to require manual forum staff approval before it is visible to everyone
This uses basic forum functionality to work, not AI or bots, although we still try to avoid using these features. If your content is automatically changed, you can always contact us about the change, but you must not reverse our change. Equally, you must not try to evade any filtering - just choose friendlier words instead. If your content requires manual approval, and we cannot approve it, we will contact you to discuss what changes could be made to allow your content to be posted.

Balancing the freedom to use naughty words, while ensuring the forum remains accessible to as many people as possible, is a very challenging task.
