Anonymous Posting Feature | Anonymous Post Request | |
Continuity - Can I continue the conversation? | When you post anonymous content, and do so again in the same thread, your anonymous username will be the same, allowing other members to understand your replies in context, like a normal conversation. Your anonymous username is only consistent in that individual thread. | Your content will be changed to look like it has been posted by another account, where it will be mixed in with everyone else's anonymised content. You can only use this for the first thread post, so any anonymous replies will have to be using the other method. |
Editing - Can I still edit my content? | You can edit or delete your content normally. | You will never be able to edit or delete your content. |
Speed - How long does it take to post? | Your content will be posted immediately, and does not require forum staff to take any action. | Staff will need to manually review and anonymise your content. This will delay the publishing of your content. |
Security - How secure is this? | So that staff can see who posted anonymous content, the forum software allows us to reveal the username of the original poster forever. In the hopefully unlikely event your account, a staff members account, or our database was compromised, your username can be revealed. This method is not suitable for genuinely sensitive content. | Once your content has been anonymised, it can never be traced back to you. The forum software keeps a log that the author has changed to our anonymous account, but not which username the content was changed from. Even if your account or our database was compromised, your anonymity is kept, except for where the pre-anonymised content exists in backups until they are overwritten. |
How - What do I have to do? | Check the anonymous post box when posting content, but don't be a pillock and forget to check it! | You must post in the Drafts Sandbox board and inform us that you would like your post anonymously posted. |
